Lidia de Pedro ‘Recurring Obscenity’ at Ink_d on artrepublic.com

Exhibition running from Jul 30 2010 until Aug 22 2010

This is the much anticipated second solo show of Lidia de Pedro and includes all new work inspired by matters that, in Lidia’s point of view, are obscene or are related to her idea of obscenity.

Lidia uses her work as a way to record thoughts and ideas; every picture tells a story. Recently she has been trying out new techniques and experimenting with materials. Currently she is looking at ways to include technology and other elements in her upcoming projects.

Her first solo exhibition The Best Man & Company, also at Ink_d, featured her first originals and was a sell out.

Upstairs@ink_d - "Welcome to the world of the Pin-up" new work from the Queen of Collage; Maria Rivans.

Portraits of film stars and pop idols surround and engulf our everyday lives, existing for us to adore and worship like gods of our modern age. As a teenager not an inch of Maria's bedroom woodchip wallpaper could be seen, being completely obscured by the pin-ups of her treasured idols.

With this new body of work, Maria has created a series of new, weird and wonderful pin-ups for us to admire. By using portraits of film stars from found 1930/40’s Hollywood Albums she intentionally sets out to retain that all-important vintage feel. Influenced by the extraordinary colours of Hitchcock films shown in Technicolor and sci-fi TV shows such as Land of the Giants and Planet of the Apes, these heroes from the past have been altered by combining and blending other found imagery scavenged from different eras, thus inviting the viewer into Maria's strange and peculiar world. The cut elements from these past worlds now collide, transforming the reality around us whilst questioning identity, our reasons and needs for the pin–up as well as commenting on our world of constant change and mystery.

Fans of maria's work will be pleased to know that there will be some new collaged landscapes and 3D Boxed Works depicting alternate realities and fantastical otherworlds. Plus her first ever screen prints featuring ‘The Birdman of Vesuvius’.

OPENING HOURS:  Mon – Sat: 10.00 – 18.00, Sun: 12.00 – 16.00
